MediaTek Helio G85 Heterogeneous Multi-Processing (HMP) is a more advanced version of big.LITTLE technology. In this setup, a processor can utilize all cores at the same time, or just a single core for low-intensity tasks. This can provide powerful performance or increased battery life respectively. Redmi Note 9 is the world’s first smartphone with MediaTek Helio G85 chipset. It’s the latest budget-centric chipset from MediaTek, succeeding three-months-old Helio G80. While the company has been mum about the chipset’s specifications, Xiaomi in the Redmi Note 9’s launch presentation revealed a handful of details about the G85.

MediaTek Helio G85 vs Snapdragon 662, is the ultimate comparison between mid-range chipsets. The MediaTek Helio G85 was revealed back in May 2020 while the Snapdragon 662 debuted back in January 2020. Let’s see how the MediaTek Helio G85 and Snapdragon 662 chipsets can compete with each other.

Key Differences

  • Mali G52 MP2 on MediaTek Helio G85 is a better GPU than Adreno 610 on Snapdragon 662.
  • SD 662 is a better battery-efficient chipset rather than MTK Helio G85.
  • Snapdragon 662 comes integrated with the support of NavIc while the MediaTek Helio G85 doesn’t.
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 comes with the support of Wi-Fi 6 Ready while Helio G85 doesn’t.
  • MediaTek Helio G85 supports Bluetooth 5.0 while Snapdragon 662 comes with upgraded Bluetooth 5.1.

MediaTek Helio G85 vs Snapdragon 662 – Benchmarks

The Snapdragon 662 scores 310 in single-cores and 1410 in multi-cores while the MediaTek Helio G85 grabs 360 in single-cores and 1280 in multi-cores on Geekbench 5. The MediaTek Helio G85 powered smartphone able to grab 1,94,000 scores while the Snapdragon one scores 1,80,000 on ANTUTU Benchmark. The MediaTek Helio G85 grabs more ANTUTU slightly more benchmark scores and however, these benchmarks differ from smartphone to smartphone so these scores can’t judge the real-world performance.

Conclusion

MediaTek Helio G85 and Snapdragon 662 both are good processors at the price range these chipsets came powered the devices. However, the Helio G85 with a better GPU can provide better gaming performace than SD 662. But in day-to-day usage there will be hardly any difference in the performance of these chipsets.
